Αντικαταβολή on Shopify: the Greek COD setup

Antikatavoli (αντικαταβολή) is a fixture of Greek e-commerce — carriers like ACS, ELTA Courier, Speedex, Geniki Taxydromiki and BoxNow all offer it with a published surcharge, and customers expect a 1–3€ fee. On Shopify: activate the manual payment method (named “Αντικαταβολή”), link a fee-carrying shipping rate to it, price islands separately from the mainland, and if you ship to Cyprus give it its own zone and fee.

COD in Greece

Greece remains one of the EU's most COD-heavy markets: despite card and IRIS payment growth, a large share of domestic parcels still pay at the door, and every Greek courier publishes an antikatavoli surcharge. Locker networks (BoxNow) even support COD. Customers don't blink at a fee — a 0.99–2.99€ supplement at checkout matches what they see everywhere else.

Setup for a Greek store

1. Settings → Payments → add the manual method named “Αντικαταβολή” — the Greek word at checkout converts noticeably better than “Cash on Delivery”.
2. Create the fee rate in your Greece zone, e.g. “Αντικαταβολή (+1,99€)”, and link it in ACOD.
3. Ship to Cyprus too? Make Cyprus its own shipping zone with its own COD rate — e.g. 0.99€ Greece, 1.99€ Cyprus (this exact split is in our support archive; per-zone rate prices handle it directly).
4. Verify with testing mode, then go live.

Islands, caps, and free-shipping

• Islands: remote-island COD costs more and refuses more. Either price island zones higher, or restrict COD by postal prefix (how) — Greek postal codes are hierarchical enough for prefix rules to cover island groups.
• Order-value cap: carriers cap cash collection per parcel; mirror it at checkout (setup).
• Free shipping over a threshold: the fee should survive above it — use the conditional-rate recipe.
