Plata ramburs on Shopify: the Romanian COD setup
Updated · ACOD (E-TRADE PARTNER)
Romania is one of Europe's strongest COD markets — plata ramburs is the default expectation, served by FAN Courier, Cargus, Sameday (and its easybox lockers), GLS and DPD. The standard Shopify setup: a 5–10 RON ramburs fee via a linked shipping rate, conditional pricing so the fee survives your free-shipping threshold (the classic 350 RON case), an order-value cap, and tag-based blocking for repeat refusers.
COD in Romania
Romanian buyers trust the door more than the card form: ramburs remains the dominant payment for domestic e-commerce parcels, every courier offers cash (and increasingly card) collection, and Sameday's easybox locker network even handles COD. Merchants pay per-parcel ramburs charges and carry the refusal risk — which makes the fee + rules setup standard practice, not an exotic optimization.
The 350 RON case (from our own support archive)
“Free shipping over 350 RON, standard shipping below, 5 RON ramburs fee — but when an order is 418 RON and the customer picks COD, the system forces free shipping and the fee disappears.” This exact Romanian setup is in our archive, and the fix is conditional rate pricing: the ramburs rate exists at all order values, priced at shipping+5 below 350 and at 5 above it, while the free rate serves prepaid. The worked table is here.
Full setup
- Settings → Payments → manual method named “Plata ramburs”.
- Create the rate(s) in your Romania zone with the fee (5–10 RON typical) and link them in ACOD.
- Add an order-value cap matching your courier's cash-collection limit and your risk tolerance.
- Tag repeat refusers and hide ramburs for the tag.
- Test via testing mode — including an order just above 350 RON.

›How do I add a 5 RON fee for plata ramburs on Shopify?
Create a shipping rate priced at 5 RON (or shipping+5 below your free threshold) and link it to the COD payment method in ACOD — customers choosing ramburs pay it, prepaid customers never see it.
›Why does my ramburs fee disappear above the free-shipping threshold?
Your COD rate has a maximum order-value condition (or the free rate replaces it). Give the COD rate conditional pricing across all order values so it stays at the fee amount above the threshold.
